i am trying to find a 16' skiff boat for a fresh water lake in ohio and the problem is that it has a 10 hp limit. i think i can get away witha 15hp motor... i have researched the carolina skiff (j1650) and it weighs 330 lbs (dry weight) i want to be able to have a nice boat, but i need some speed to get across the lake to different locations.|||It sounds like you should consider a smaller boat (14-ft). The ideal motor for a J1650 is the Yamaha F40.
Look at Yamaha's website for performance bulletins. They will not have the exact combo you are looking for, but you can get an idea of the performance and prop requirements by looking at similar combos.
