Do you feel it is worthwhile to pay almost DOUBLE for the so-called premium vodkas?

I went to the liquor story today to get a case of one of my favorite beers and a bottle of vodka, and I noticed a bottle of Grey Goose and another 'premium' vodka was nearly twice as much as the vodka I usually buy... now, I realize that Grey Goose had a great marketing strategy several years back that had to do with their rating in a taste test... the vodka I buy was rated just under Grey Goose at 96 out of 100... my question is, what am I really paying for if I did by the outrageously expensive brand?Do you feel it is worthwhile to pay almost DOUBLE for the so-called premium vodkas?
Back when I was a professional drunk I loved my Absolut. I drank it straight (chilled) so the smoother, more expensive vodka was the way to travel (so to speak). If you are mixing it you are wasting your money. Someone mentioned Smirnoff which is not a bad vodka and not super pricey like Grey Goose. As to the hangover if you are prone to hangovers the cost of the vodka you consume is not the best indicator of how bad the hangover. It is more about the amount of alcohol you drink. Instead of wasting double/triple the money on a pricey vodka for your Bloody Mary or whatever if you are mixing it.... ensure you take a couple of Tylenol and drink plenty of water before going to bed. Also avoid mixing alcohol with Coke, Sprite, or anything else with a high sugar content because sugar and alcohol are broken down the same way in the liver. People swear ... I can taste the difference. I used to tend bar at a local Portuguese Brotherhood Club and used to let some of our members believe they were drinking "top shelf' and when I saw them the next day and asked.. hung over? The answer was always NO, because it is simply mind over matter. Then I would tell them don't waste money on top shelf you were drinking rock gut. (I only charged them for the rock gut by the way). Save your money and you can afford to take a cab home when you overindulge. "Over the lips and past the gums.... LOOK OUT STOMACH HERE IT COMES"!
you are paying for a better headache when you finish the bottle.

it is much smoother on the brainDo you feel it is worthwhile to pay almost DOUBLE for the so-called premium vodkas?
after the ex brought me a bottle of Smirnoff i remembered why i started drinking the better vodka
I really don't see the point in it...when I drink Vodka I'm not going to remember the night anywayDo you feel it is worthwhile to pay almost DOUBLE for the so-called premium vodkas?
there is really little difference. in blind taste tests most people cant tell the difference between the cheap brands and the expensive brands.

when you buy the expensive ones you are just paying for a new yacht for the company CEO.
If you're mixing it with something, no difference, and I would bet dollars to donuts against anyone that says they could tell the difference in a vodka, when I mix it in some cranberry cocktail juice.
To answer, it depends.

Yes, IF I'm going to drink most of it straight

which I tend to with Vodka, knowing in certain

cases (no pun enCASED) that I can taste

the diff, ie, that gorgeous bottle of skyy blue;

...yes people, it IS smoother and tastes distinct.

No, IF I'm going to mix it, in which case, the Smirns

works just fine.

But, ABSOLUT-ly, I've not STOLIn this, these words

are all mine.

The Vodka however, I'm happy to share.
Take 4 shots of regular vodka, then take 4 shots of premium vodka, and tell me if you care if your paying for the premium bottle or the cheap bottle...
i've never been a snob when it comes to what i drink
If I'm going to order a straight up martini, I would only order a premium. My faves are Level (I think it's Absolute's premium vodka) and Grey Goose. But if it's a cosmo or anything that's mixed, I think something like Absolut or Skyy is fine! For a great price and taste, I've found this Swedish vodka called Svedka. It's distilled 5 times and is YUMMY! Once you've had a few-----honestly it doesn't matter either way!
It's not a matter of being a snob, or anything else. Enjoy the finer things in life. Life is too short to drink cheap beer, or cheap anything. Drink whatever you enjoy, but I urge you to drink quality. Quality doesn't necessarily mean more expensive, but the two are usually intrinsically linked.

One exception would be Grey Goose, which is the most overrated vodka to ever hit the market.
The more expensive brands use higher quality grains and usually filter more often. Honestly, here is a little trick: Buy some expensive vodka, and then buy the very CHEAPEST vodka. Pour the CHEAP vodka through a Brita water pitcher a few times. Then compare the two, have a friend mark which is which and then you taste. No difference. You might even find the filtered CHEAP vodka smoother. ;)

I will say, though, it 's a lot easier to buy the expensive stuff. Grey Goose is good. But so are a lot of others. At least a good vodka is cheaper than a good tequila! :)
I really think you can taste the difference between the "cheap" vodkas and the "expensive" vodkas. If you're not planning on getting totally wasted, spend your money to get something better. If you're just drinking to get drunk, you might as well take shots of Popov (the poor college students' vodka...tastes like rubbing alcohol but it gets ya drunk fast!)
I agree with rockman----it just depends on how ur drinking ....straight or mixed and also how much you plan on drinking.......the better the liquor the less the headache!!!!
